As the white smoke came out of the chimney, we knew the Cardinals had successfully concluded their prayerful work of choosing the successor of Peter.

A while later, when Leo XIV appeared on the balcony he greeted all gathered in Rome and around the world and invited us to build bridges assured that Jesus Christ walks with us. Let us pray for him as he undertakes God’s mission in his role as leader of our Church.
